Highly acclaimed around the world (a past nominee for Gilles Peterson's Worldwide Winners and the LA Weekly Music Awards and heavily rotated on Carlos Niņo's Spaceways Radio) for his inspired and at times surreal songwriting, soulful voice and eerie, unique production, Damon Aaron is poised to reach the next level with Ballast, his first official full-length release (long overdue for a career in music that has lasted more than 15 years). Somehow, the spiritual idea that things all happen in divine time rings true here. Aaron's musical sound and message are right on time, fusing influences as diverse as Nick Drake, Mississippi John Hurt, folkloric music of West Africa, Lee Scratch Perry, King Tubby and even DJ Premier. Aaron takes you through the highs and lows of life as expressed by a struggling young father with a tremendous insight and undying dedication to the melodies and harmonies that run through his head.
In 2004 Aaron lent his guitar and voice to the recording and tour efforts of Telefon Tel Aviv. In 2003 he did the same for Sofa Surfers' I-Wolf, and Build An Ark. He's been included on a couple of very innovative and seminal compilations Funky Precedent Volume 1 (No Mayo) and DublabPresents: Freeways (Emperor Norton) alongside greats like Madlib, Jurrasic 5, Dialated Peoples, Dntel, Daedelus, Mia Doi Todd and many others. He's been a praised L.A. session player helping guide the sounds of bands like Breakestra, Najite & The Olokun Prophecy, Pan Dulce and Divine Styler over the years, but now it's time for his own music to shine.
