Lusine

biography

Lusine is the moniker for Jeff McIlwain's visceral, melodic vision of abstract electronic music. Originally a Texas native, he now resides in Seattle. In 1998, he attended Calarts to study 20th century electronic music and sound design for music and film. Soon after, he met Shad Scott and put out a self titled release with Isophlux. Since then, he has been releasing his music on various labels including Ann Arbor's Ghostly International, Hymen, and U-Cover.

He has performed around the US and abroad including a US tour with Solvent, the Spectral Finlandia Vodka tour with Matthew Dear and Tadd Mullinix, and a set at London's esteemed Fabric nightclub. Over the past few months, Jeff McIlwain has been working on remixes for Alex Smoke (Soma, July), Alex Under (Apnea), and My Brightest Diamond (Asthmatic Kitty). He recently co-wrote the score for "Snow Angels" with David Wingo (Ola Podrida), which was written and directed by David Gordon Green and will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in 2007.

A CD and remix 12" titled "Podgelism" will be released in early 2007 on Ghostly as well as a new ambient album for Hymen records (GER).

"...Lusine is like the darting rhythms of his tracks: always on the move, always changing. But, for an instant, he's been caught and pressed. Play this one until the grooves wear out..." -Mark Teppo, Igloo Magazine
